Submission Form

Contest Rules

Individual Submissions

  • Must be a currently enrolled student.
  • No more than 1 file/submission per individual.
  • The submission must be submitted in .stl format/file type.
  • Needs to be a functional design that can be printed using an Alkek Library 3D printer.
  • The design should be printed as one piece and may not be modified or decorated after printing outside of removing and cleaning the supports from your design.
  • Must follow all copyright rules and cite sources correctly if applicable.
  • The time to print cannot exceed 10 hours.
  • The Spring of 2018 contest submissions will only be accepted between 1/18/18 – 3/23/18.

Judging

  • The judging committee will select the top 5 submitted designs using a scoring rubric.
  • The 5 individuals will be announced on social media (Twitter and Facebook) and will receive an email notice at the address they provided on their submission form.
  • The top 5 designs selected by the judging committee will be printed by the 3D Printing Contest Team and their subject matter experts using the Alkek Library 3D printers.
  • Those 5 prints will be put on display in the Alkek Library 3D printing exhibit case for the university community to view.
  • In addition to the 3D printed designs being displayed, designs will be photographed and posted on social media (Twitter and Facebook) for public viewing and to vote for the grand prize winner.
  • All judging of the digital 3D designs conducted by the judging committee will be completed by 4/9/18.
  • Judging conducted via social media will be completed by 4/23/18.
  • The Grand Prize winner to be announced on 4/25/18 at the Alkek Library Maker Day event.
  • The design with the most votes will be the grand prize winner.
   

Grand Prize Winner

  • The Grand Prize Winner for the individual submission category will be awarded:
    • A 3D printed copy of their design
    • Starbucks VIA Ready Brew Coffee, Italian Roast, .12oz, 8/box
    • Hershey’s Nuggets Assortment Party Bag, 38.5oz
    • MOTA JETJAT Live-W FPV Hobby Drone with HD Camera.
  • A video will be produced using the YouStar Studio to record the winner's story and experience while creating their 3D design.

Team Submissions

  • All team members must be a currently enrolled student.
  • You may only be a member of one team and no team may consist of greater than 3 individuals.
  • No more than 1 file/submission per team.
  • If you compete as a part of a team, you may still compete with a separate submission as an individual.
  • The submission must be submitted in .stl format/file type.
