Adult Development

Getting Started

Reference Material in the form of subject dictionaries, encyclopedias, and handbooks typically provide background essays, definitions, broad overviews of various topics, or other pertinent facts. Sage eReference is a searchable collection of eReference titles.

Their topics are related to Adult Development, specifically aspect of identity development, and they are currently honing in on exactly what each of them will be looking at.  It is a challenging assignment in that the literature is interdisciplinary and not specifically “adult development”.

Here is a brief summary of the assignment: "You will examine the research and theory on a topic of identity development. Options might include: sexual identity development, gender identity development (woman or masculine), Latino identity development, African American or African identity development, White identity development, Asian or Asian American identity development, religious identity development, a particular ethnic group’s identity development. Additionally, identities are “mixed”, we all possess more than one. You may think of another about which you are interested. First, check the literature to see if it is an identity about which research or theory-building has been done. Then contact me to confirm your choice."
