Creative Commons is a non-profit organization in the US that is dedicated to expanding the amount of creative works available in print and on the web. CC has created six different Creative Commons Licenses that any author can use free of charge. Each license allows the author to either retain or waive specific intellectual property rights.
The following are the six Creative Commons licenses available for use:
Attribution: CC BY This license allows others to use, edit, and buils upon your work for any reason, so long as they credit your original creation.
Attribution-NoDerivs: CC BY-ND You may distribute a work published under this license both commercially and non-commercially, so long as you reproduce it in whole and give credit to the author.
Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike: CC BY-NC-SA You may change and build upon works published under this license. However, you must use the work non-commercially, credit ot the original author, and publish your new work under the same terms.
Attribution-ShareAlike: CC BY-SA You may edit and build upon these works, even for commercial purposes. However, you must credit the original author and publish your work under the same terms.
Attribution-NonCommercial: CC BY-NC You may edit and build upon these works non-commercially. You do not have to license your new work under the same terms.
Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs: CC BY-NC-ND You may download and share these works. However, you must must provide credit to the original author, and you may not change them in any way or share them for commercial purposes.
