If you are interested in books which are not owned by the Alkek Library, they can be requested via our Interlibrary Loan service and we will borrow them from another library. This is a free service available to current Texas State Students, Faculty, Staff. NOTE: This process takes 7-10 days for books.
To request a book, open our ILLIAD link for interlibrary loan and fill out the online request form.
If you have not used the service before, just click near the bottom of the page at the "First time users" link to set up your free account.
WorldCat is a database to look at to find out which libraries own books that might not be available in the Alkek Library. Use the "request this item via ILL" link in each record to generate an ILL request to Texas State.

Doing a subject search for the following terms will be useful in finding books-
Quakers
OR
Society of Friends
Here's the distinction the library of congress makes-
Society of Friends for materials focused on the group as a religious denomination. Works on the persons belonging to the Society of Friends are entered under Quakers. (you might try both terms!)
Once a subject search is done, scroll down to see lots of materials broken down by geographic regions and other narrower terms.
You can also do a keyword search for a topic like Abolition Quakers to locate materials in our collections with those topics.
Be sure to review the "Search Strategies" tab above for tips on executing a fruitful search.
If someone has already done research on a topic you are investigating you are encouraged to seek out the same sources. Sometimes you may find an abundant amount of material that wasn't important to them, but is perfect for you. Other times you may find you disagree with their interpretation, which will give you something to write about from a fresh perspective.
