CI 5390: Research Seminar in Education: Advanced Search Strategies

This course guide was created for Prof. Langerock's CI 5390 (Research Seminar in Education) class

Overview

If you are not finding relevant articles for your research project try the strategies below for improved results.

QUICK TIPS: NOT FINDING ANY ARTICLES?

One search strategy for finding more articles is to change your search terms. Watch the following video or review the guide to learn how to find new search terms in a database.

The video covers the following concepts:

  • Finding search terms using a database thesaurus.
  • Finding search terms using the subject terms in an article record.

CITATION ANALYSIS

Citation Analysis or Citation Chasing is a strategy for finding more articles.  Once you have identified an article that is relevant to your research you can "chase the citation" to find other articles that have cited the article.  The video tutorials demonstrate how to chase citations using Google Scholar and the library database Scopus.
