This guide was created for English 1320 instructors. If you are a student in an English 1320 class, try searching for your professor's name in the Libguides search box.

Setting up Library Instruction for Your Classes

Use this link to request a library instruction session for your class. Please fill out a separate form for multiple class sessions.

Scheduling Guidelines & Information

  • Please send your class request at least ONE WEEK before your proposed class time.
  • Email confirmation for your session will arrive within 24-48 hours.
  • If you don't receive a confirmation, contact Liz Sisemore (eh1093@txstate.edu)
    or Lorin Flores (lf13@txstate.edu).
  • The confirmation email will include information about the Alkek classroom where the
session will be held and the librarian who is assigned to your class.
  • Librarians can travel to your classroom or a campus lab at your request.

Session Length & Content

  • The librarian working with your class will contact you a few days before the class to
finalize details and request a copy of the assignment.
  • The librarian will also include a link to an online handout with resources for your class
that can be embedded in TRACS.
  • You may also choose to add the librarian's NetID to your TRACS site in the
"University Librarian" role to assist students should they have research questions.
  • The librarian will prepare a 30-40 minute presentation (depending
on the length of your class) to allow for presentation time and hands-on time near the end.
  • Typically there will be a learning activity for students to follow during the presentation.

What to Expect....

  • A confirmation email will be sent to you within 24-48 hours (holidays and closures might delay response times).  Contact libraryinstruction@txstate.edu if you do not get a confirmation within that timeframe.

  • Your confirmation email will contain the time, date, and library room where that your class will meet.  Although we do our best to make sure these are as correct as possible, please let us know if there is a mistake in the confirmation.

  • Your assigned librarian will contact you several days before your scheduled class date(s) to go over presentation content and finalize details.

  • You are welcome to send your class assignment and other content earlier than that.  Check the Library Instruction Calendar (requires Outlook login to access) to find out who your assigned librarian is, or send email to libraryinstruction@txstate.edu to enquire.

  • Add your assigned librarian to your TRACS site and choose the email notification option so they will know.

  • Let your students know where to meet and when the day of the library session.  They can always ask at the 2nd floor Research & Information desk for directions if they get lost in the library.

  • The presentation and class content will be tailored to your class assignments and according to your feedback.  Your librarian will also prepare an online course guide for your class that can be added to your TRACS site.

  • Most library sessions will be held in a classroom with workstations.  Your students are also welcome to bring their own devices if they prefer.

  • Students will complete an online In-class activity during the instruction session that walks them through the research process.

  • The In-class activity has a built-in quiz.  You can request your class' scores from your assigned librarian.

  • Your class session will include interactive in-class activities, video, lecture, and hands-on portions in addition to the In-class activity.

  • Class sessions usually are 30-40 minutes in length (depending on class period time) and will include time set aside at the end of the learning session for students to work on their assignments with librarian access.
  • Request quiz/activity scores from your librarian, if you haven't done so already.

  • Please let us know how it went! We welcome feedback.  Use the form below to rate your class' session.  This link and the link to a student feedback form will also be posted on your class' online libguide.

  • Please encourage your students to leave their feedback, too.
