Narrative/Observations

The survey shows that 4 OWLS faculty members replied. Most faculty research is done online and they like to access content online. Not much feedback was gathered using the survey; like Social Work faculty, while many did not reply to the survey, more than half replied to the librarian's direct email sent asking about their research interests. Since that's one of the questions on the survey,the librarian will likely take a similar approach when attempting a second survey.

Faculty Research Interests

Faculty were also polled via email for research interests and the following topics were generated by the librarian:

  • PTSD
  • Leadership and career counseling
  • Adult education and adults as learners
  • Self-directed learning
  • Personal epistemological beliefs
  • Mentoring
  • Equity and global issues
  • Transformative learning
  • Interdisciplinary Problem Solving
  • Distance Learning in Adulthood
  • Systems Theory
  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, and Ally development in adulthood
  • qualitative research
  • adult response to online learning
  • types of training online instructors need to be effective teaching/how training of instructors effected both the response to online group work as well as student satisfaction

Why don’t you visit the Alkek Library?

Online   OWLS    I can get resources online. If I do need to check out books, I send students go retrieve them.

Why Visit?

Books/Scanner OWLS    pick up a book, scan something with the book scanner

Please share any comments about the Library’s collections: While working on my dissertation, Alkek was my primary resource.  The university were I got my degree in 2013 did not have anything close to the online collection we are fortunate to have at Texas State; Online holdings are important for my work.

How could the document delivery service be improved?
When something is not available on Interlibrary Loan because we own it - it's happened to me a few times. Then, it should be transferred to faculty article delivery - so we can receive a copy - not just a cancellation of the ILL.

How can the Ask a Librarian service be improved?  Always excellent service; Both work equally well; I have found it to be extremely high quality; I love the Chat tool for immediate questions; I think it's very functional as is; Chat often doesn't respond
