Not Just a Scavenger Hunt: Using Edventure to Reimagine a Freshman-level Library Instruction Session: What Next?

This is the companion guide for the NMC 2016 Summer Conference Idea lab presented by Tricia Boucher & Lorin Flores

What Next?

Redesign provides inspiration.

Looking at the more complicated logic structure potential in the game, we are currently designing games for both instruction and assessment.

Current library games in design/under consideration:

  • University Seminar (US 1100) redesign
  • Freshman English Composition (ENG 1320)
  • University-wide Library Orientation (Bobcat Preview)
  • Student Worker Training
  • Theatre Courses
  • Family & Consumer Science Courses

NMC Summer Conference 2016 has also provided some inspiration for new directions.

Constance Steinkuehler's keynote presentation entitled "Games, Learning, and Society: The Intellectual Life of Digital Play" gave us the idea to revise the University Seminar game to incorporate role-playing elements.  We also envision that the proposed games for Theatre and Family and Consumer Science students might also be more like role-playing games as well.
