Information Literacy 101

What is information literacy?

Library instruction

Information Literacy Instruction in your class

Library and Research Basics: An introduction to the library is covered in our asynchronous option (Research Tutorials) but can also be covered face to face based on availability.

Topics for instructionmight include:

  • Library tour
  • Website overview
  • Navigating databases
  • Citation basics
  • Brainstorming keywords
  • Information literacy fundamentals
    • The information lifecycle
    • Evaluating information
    • Research as a Process
    • Topic development
    • Finding books and articles
  • Step-by-step research strategies and more

Flipped Classroom model

  • We know time is valuable. In this model of instruction, faculty assign the research tutorials (Part I, Part II, or both) to their students before the planned library instruction day.
  • Students complete worksheet 1 (and possibly worksheet 2).
  • Students download and upload this to your Canvas (or bring to class with the librarian).
  • The goal is that students will have a base understanding before the librarian is scheduled to visit the class.

Specialized Content request

  • Do you have a specific database(s), project, or unique assignment? Requesting specialized instruction helps our librarians prepare for a more in depth session with you and your students.

Virtual or in person

  • You can specify on the form how you want the instruction delivered.
