Poetry Awards

Harold Morton Landon Translation Award ; @TxState  | Recognizes a poetry collection translated from any language into English and published in the previous calendar year. Established in 1976, it is given annually. A noted translator chooses the winning book.
Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize ; @TxState  | Recognizes the most outstanding book of poetry published in the United States in the previous calendar year.
National Book Critics Circle Award Poetry ; @TxState  | Honors the best literature published in the United States in six categories—autobiography, biography, criticism, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. These are the only national literary awards chosen by critics themselves.
Pulitzer Poetry ;  @TxState  | One of the seven American Pulitzer Prizes that are annually awarded for Letters, Drama, and Music. It has been presented since 1922 for a distinguished volume of original verse by an American author, published during the preceding calendar year.
Walt Whitman Award ; @TxState  | Established in 1975 to encourage the work of emerging poets and to enable the publication of a poet’s first book. The judge for the 2017 Walt Whitman Award is U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera.

Claudia Lewis ; @TxState | The award is given for the best poetry book of the year.
Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry ; @TxState | The IRA Lee Bennett Hopkins Promising Poet Award is given every three years to a promising new poet of children’s poetry (for children and young adults up to grade 12) who has published no more than two books of children’s poetry.

NCTE established the Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children in 1977 to honor a living American poet for his or her aggregate work for children ages 3–13.
