Environmental Scan - Engineering Technology: Findings

Summary/Conclusion/Narrative

Based on the few survey responses received, the graduate students and faculty in Engineering Technology seem to be generally satisfied with the services the library provides. Our collection development selections tend to match their preferred formats, although they seem to prefer more print books than we generally purchase.

There do appear to be some gaps in awareness that could be improved with further communication. In particular, the graduate students should be informed about the library's presentation practice and technology spaces, as well as the forthcoming graduate lounge. We should also promote the library's research guides more widely.

Faculty Information Use Preference

No faculty members responded to the library's information use survey. Follow-up questions were sent to faculty members via email, with one response.

Responses:

  • The faculty member feels the library's collection(s) support his research and teaching needs.
  • Preferred material formats:
    • Prefers electronic journals
    • Prefers print books
    • Strongly prefers print reference materials
    • Likes physical and digital videos
  • Preferred methods of communication include email, print flyer, and in-person visit from subject librarian.
  • He is aware of and has used Instructional Services.

Further interviews will be conducted in the future.
