Alkek Maker Day: April 29: Virtual Alkek Maker Day

A guide to document our library Maker Days and provide related resources.

Sessions will include:

12-12:30pm MakerSpace tour

2:30-3pm MakerSpace demos

Take a virtual tour of the new Alkek One MakerSpace with MakerSpace coordinator Noah Brock! Noah will give a sneak peek of the spaces and equipment that will soon be available to students, faculty, and staff.

Also, check out some demonstrations of the types of tools you will be able to use.

12:30-1:15pm Mask Sewing

Follow along with librarian Megan Ballengee as she demonstrates several techniques for making your own masks at home. Techniques will include no-sew options.

Here's an example:

1:15-2pm Yarn Studio Tour & Setting Up Your Craft Station/Q&A

Drop in on artist Candace Pauly's yarn studio and take a tour of a professional craft setup. Following the tour, Candace will give advice on how to set up your own craft station and will answer any questions you have.

2-2:30pm Crochet demonstration

Librarian Tricia Boucher will demonstrate the basics of crocheting. No crochet hooks? No probem--Tricia will demonstrate using household tools.

3-3:30pm Zines

Learn more about DIY zine publishing with librarian Tara Smith. Tara will show examples of zines from the library collection and show you how to make a zine out of a single sheet of paper. Zines Research Guide with examples of how to make a zine and how to find them at Alkek.

3:30-4pm Book Making

Learn some techniques for creating your own blank books with Hithia Davis. This quick and easy process uses materials you probably already have at home!

4-5pm Graduation cap show and tell

For all the seniors who decorated their graduation cap and have nowhere to show it off--we want to see them! Share your handiwork during this show and tell session. In addition to graduation caps, we want to see what else you've been working on while you've been at home!
