Emmett and Addie Cowan

Biography

Mr. Emmett Cowan was born in 1891 in Wimberley, Texas to Anders and Nancy Ellen Cowen.  He was one of ten children; he had five brother ans four sisters.  He ranched and farmed 316 acres in the Wimberley area.

Emmett married Addie in 1912; at the time of the interview they had been married for 62 years.

Mr. Emmett Cowan was interviewed by Stan Siler and Linda Chappel in 1974.  Mrs. Addie Cowan fills in some of the blanks in the background when her husband has trouble hearing the interviewers or when he gives a very succinct answer.  The conversation includes discussion of the Wimberley floods in 1900 and 1920, ranching and farming life, and some general history of Wimberley during the Depression years.
