This guide gives a basic overview of GIS and the resources available at the Texas State University Libraries.

State Data

TxDOT open data portal 

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) provides a wide range of geospatial data related to transportation infrastructure, like roadway networks, traffic volumes, crash data, bridge inventory, maintenance zones, environmental information, and public transit data. 

TCEQ GIS Data Hub 

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) GIS Data Hub provides a wide range of environmental and regulatory data, including air quality, water quality, hazardous waste sites, emissions, land use, and regulatory boundaries for Texas. 

Texas Land Trends Data 

It provides geospatial data on land use, land cover, population trends, rural development, and conservation across Texas, with a focus on changes in land ownership and use over time. 

Texas General Land Office GIS Data 

GLO provides extensive data for natural resources, land management, and coastal protection, including historical and current land use data including coastal boundaries, land ownership, topography, energy resources, oil spill data, and coastal management program data.
