Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Services: GIS - Demography

This guide gives a basic overview of Geographic Information Systems and the resources available to Texas State University library patrons.

Resources

Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS)

  • "The American Community Survey (ACS) Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) files are a set of untabulated records about individual people or housing units. The Census Bureau produces the PUMS files so that data users can create custom tables that are not available through pretabulated (or summary) ACS data products."

U.S. Census Bureau Data

  • Provides great links to other U.S. demography resources.

Texas State Data Center

  • Includes data regarding population estimates and projections, census data, and descriptive tables by subject.

ProQuest Statistical Abstract of the U.S. - Population

  • Comprehensive database with sections on population, births, deaths, marriages, and divorces, health and nutrition, and many more.
