As an initiative of National Association of Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) and The Suder Foundation, the Center for First-Generation Student Success’s mission is “to provide data, training, and expertise for a growing network of colleges and universities around the country to scale and sustain the important work of serving first-generation students.” (Source: Center for First-Generation Student Success)

Empowering First-Generation College Students

This private Facebook community group aims at professional higher education staff or faculty member who is seeking resources that support first-generation students.  Membership is open, and no promotions or requests for donations permitted. 

FirstGen Society

“Established in 2021, the National Leadership Society of First Generation College Students, a.k.a. FirstGen Society, is a national social organization dedicated specifically for first generation college students and alumni. We provide our members with support, leadership development, and fellowship, community, and friendship through our Student Clubs, Collegiate Chapters, and Professional Chapters.” (Source: FirstGen Society)

First Gen Support (FGS)

Started off as an Instagram page, First Gen Support is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) and a community that supports first-generation students, low-income students, and immigrant students by sharing free resources to have an impact and to bridge the gap of educational disparities. 

FLIP National

A non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization to promote equal opportunity for first-generation students and low-income students in higher education.  “This organization hopes to raise awareness about the issues that hamper the academic success and well-being of FGLI students and pursue sustainable solutions through establishment of initiatives and advocacy for policy change.” (Source: FLIP National)

I’m First

As an initiative of UStrive, I’m First is an online community that celebrates and guides first-generation students by providing YouTube video testimonials from first-generation students and graduates across the country, a student blog that features topics relating to first-generation students, a partnered list of colleges, and free services in college and career mentoring. 

National Association of Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA)

As a professional member-centered global association, NASPA is the driving force in integrating and utilizing these guiding principles: integrity, innovation, inclusion, and inquiry towards practicing student affairs in higher education.  Its 2019-2024 Strategic Plan focuses on these four areas:  advocacy for student success; equity, inclusion, and social justice; research and scholarship; and professional development and engagement.
