Event: LBJ Drive closed to traffic

Closing a city street may not seem like a big deal, but when that street cut through the middle of the Quad, it was a significant event.

When the Normal School began, LBJ Drive (which was then known as Austin Street) was at the edge of campus.  However, as the school began to expand on the other side of that street, traffic through campus became an issue.  Closing the street was also an issue for local citizens, as anyone who lived north of Sessom had to drive around the campus just to get downtown.
