Collection Development Best Practices: Funding

Goal

Increased Funding for academic discipline

Increase library material funding for university’s emerging research focuses.

Best Practices

Find and apply for library material grants and funding opportunities outside of the library or university.

Take training for grant/proposal writing.

Partner with research faculty to find and apply for major library material funding opportunities to address their needs.  These should be major private or federal grants.

Take grant acceptance training done by University’s Office of Sponsored Programs on Interfund transfers (this is necessary whenever you receive grant funds from outside the library or university)

Work singularly or with colleagues to find funds beyond the library discipline allocations to enhance the existing collections and address gaps (Library’s Collection Action Plan).

Suggested Measures of Success

Provide documentation indicating success in creating, writing, and/or granting of library research funds relevant to your subject areas.(copy of the proposal, letters of support, letter granting funds)

You can also provide documentation to indicate you have:

  • advanced existing research in the university (letters/acknowledgment from dept. faculty)
  • collection in your assigned area has served as recruitment incentive to new research faculty and graduate students. (letters/acknowledgment from dept. faculty or graduate students)
